Menomasweu

Menomasweu is an anthology of short stories derived from a Setswana Idiom “Menomasweu polaya e tshega” which means that in most cases people are usually betrayed by their close friends because of jealousy.  They always laugh with them while deeply they hate them. The book has seven short stories with different themes but mainly covering the meaning of the book title.

The book has seven short stories revealing the unforgiving truth. In the world of betrayal, deceit and hypocrisy lurk behind the warmest smiles, Menomasweu deep into the darkest corners of human nature. This haunting anthology unravels the chilling tales of genda-based violence, drug abuse by youth and the silent devastation of a global pandemic i.e Corona virus that was experienced by our country during 2019 and 2020 respectively.  Each story reveals the thin veneer of trust that masks the true intentions of those closest to us.

From the murderous principal, to a reckless soul who brings death into the hearts of his loved ones, and a friend’s betrayal that tears a family apart.  This narrative exposes the grim realities we often refuse to see.  With each turn of the page, Menomasweu forces us to confront the uncomfortable truths that lie hidden in our own lives.  The final note echoes the author’s lament for the forgotten Setswana language, a poignant reminder of cultural loss amid chaos. This anthology is more than just stories – but it’s a mirror reflecting the unsettling truths of our time.
